Matthew 6:5-8
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."
Notes taken from Isaac Hunter's sermon (08/23/09):
*"We all struggle with pride and vanity...getting on with life as it really is, instead of keeping up appearances."
*"Have a bigger heart for God and who He loves."
*"We trust in what we have done vs. what God has done."
*"Pride looks like a judgemental spirit. If your evaluation keeps you from loving someone, this is a form of pride."
*"If we refuse to seek help, this is another form of pride."
*"What you do for God, God will honor."
*"Get to the point where acts of service become as natural as breathing."
Psalm 25:8-10
Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of his covenant."
Psalm 14:2
"The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God."
2 Corinthians 8:9
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich."
Philippians 2:5-7
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness."
