Matthew 5:14-16
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
Matthew 6:1-6
""Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
C.S. Lewis says miracles are "definite interventions that go beyond natural laws. Miracles are consistent with nature, but beyond natural law. They are caused by a benevolent being."
Notes taken from Isaac Hunter's sermon (08/16/09):
*"God is pleased to work a miracle within someone else versus the miracle alone."
*"Virtue happens when someone quietly learns something so that that something becomes second nature."
*"Our pursuit of God will lead to virtue."
*"You are God's people. Be God's people. Remember whose people you are and Who you are called to."
*"Best thing...'well done my good and faithful servant'."
*"Don't need to think about it, it just happens, becomes natural."
*"We are already loved by God whether we get the works thing or not."
*"Understand this is a result of His love preceding any forward progress on our part."
*"We don't earn His love...it is a gift. God is crazy about you. He knows all about the brokeness."
*"We are loved, He will come, and we can do things that represent Him well."

"But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you."
